The Upstate Heat brings the Pippen legacy to Anderson, South Carolina with the signing of Antron Pippen—son of the legendary six time NBA Champion Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen. Signing Antron was a must for the returning WBA Champs, says team owner Alex Garrick.
The Upstate Heat will host its home games at the Anderson V Career Campus, the former McDuffie High School and the home of local legend Larry Nance. Larry was a big part of the community and still has strong ties to the Southside of Anderson, SC, says Upstate Heat General Manager Horace Alexander, Jr.
The mission of the Upstate Heat involves player development as well as community development, which is the primary reason we chose to continue using the Career Campus as our home facility—our focus is to help nurture and develop up and coming basketball players and, at the same time, help contribute to the redevelopment of the neighborhood surrounding the Career Campus, says Horace Alexander, Jr.
Pippen is a 6-2, 25-year-old point guard/shooting guard who broke into the WBA with the Gwinnett Majic last season and was recruited to play with the Upstate Heat last winter. He averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds last season. He is able to play more at point guard than shooting guard, and is known as a solid defensive player.
The Upstate has several players returning this season and considers the acquisition of Antron Pippen a solid franchise move.
