Acclaimed actor James Earl Jones dies at 93
POSTED BY WLAS September 9th, 2024 0 COMMENTS

James Earl Jones, a versatile actor of the stage and motion pictures, has died at the age of 93, representatives confirmed to entertainment trade publications on Monday.

The cause of death was not immediately known. Jones passed at his home in Dutchess County, New York, the Independent Artist group said in a statement.

Jones was one of the few actors who has ever won the EGOT — Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony — during their career. His appearances span countless classic films and franchises, including “Dr. Strangelove,” “Star Wars” and Disney’s “The Lion King,” and was the voice behind numerous interstitial spots for cable network CNN.

His other acting credits include “Conan the Barbarian,” “Coming to America,” “The Sandlot,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games” and “Sneakers,” among others. Jones also appeared in numerous Broadway and off-Broadway stage productions, including “Fences,” “You Can’t Take it With You” and “The Great White Hope.”

Jones received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, and was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2002.
