Greenville’s Convention Center No Longer Has Corporate Sponsor
POSTED BY WLAS August 1st, 2018 0 COMMENTS

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville’s premier convention center is officially without a corporate sponsor.

WYFF News 4 has learned that the sponsorship of TD Bank, which paid for its name to appear on the TD Convention Center, ended earlier this year and the bank does not intend to renew it.

The convention center features 60,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 30,000-square-foot ballroom and 280,000 square feet of exhibit space.

In 2007, Carolina First Bank bought the naming rights to the facility and changed the name from Palmetto Expo Center to Carolina First Center.

In 2011, Carolina First Bank became TD Bank throughout the Carolinas. Carolina First had a multiyear naming rights sponsorship of the convention center, which TD Bank assumed with the acquisition of the bank, and the convention center was renamed TD Convention Center.

A statement Monday from TD Bank South Carolina Market President David Lominack said, “TD Bank’s naming rights agreement with the convention center expired on Jan. 31, 2018. We were proud to have been a sponsor and we continue to maintain our relationship with the city of Greenville through other marketing sponsorships, through our support of community programs and through our corporate campus on I-85 and our stores in the city.”

The convention center is on city-owned property off South Pleasantburg Drive.

The company that manages the convention center for the city says a name change is expected to be announced later this year. The city has not yet confirmed that.
