Tax Lien Assessed On Bishop Eddie Long And His Wife
POSTED BY WLAS July 4th, 2017 0 COMMENTS

They say there is nothing certain in life but death and taxes. Bishop Eddie Long has already experienced the former, but even in death, the IRS wants its coins. Long and his widow, Vanessa have been assessed with a federal tax lien in the hundreds of thousands.

The AJC.com reports:

The Department of the Treasury-IRS has filed notice of a federal tax lien on the late Bishop Eddie L. Long and his wife, Vanessa, according to documents filed in May in DeKalb County Superior Court.

The IRS is seeking $335,216.34.

Bishop Eddie L. Long was pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in DeKalb County. The Lithonia megachurch pastor died of cancer in January.

The document said that taxes (including interest and penalties) have been assessed against the Longs.

“We have made a demand for payment for this liability, but it remains unpaid,” according to filing. “Therefore, there is a lien in favor of the United States on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayer for the amount of these taxes, and additional penalties, interests and cost that may accrue.”

It falls under the small business/self employed category and covers the tax period ending Dec. 31, 2015.

New Birth could not be reached for comment. Federal law prohibits the IRS from talking about specific cases.
