COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) —A 15-year-old has been shot at the South Carolina State Fair.
A Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, said the shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. Saturday inside the fairgrounds. The condition of the teen is not known. Deputies are still investigating.
An automated message on the State Fair telephone line said that the fair is currently closed and will reopen on Sunday at noon. Some people have left but there are reports of people still in the fair.
We have received conflicting reports on the status of the fair.
However, according to the fair’s general manager, Gary Goodman, the gates were closed and no one was allowed to enter the fairgrounds after the shooting occurred.
No one inside the fair at the time of the incident was asked to leave and the fair was still operating under normal operations.
The general manager said the fair will reopen at noon on Sunday.
We will update this story as information becomes available.
