GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —Rapper DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested in the Upstate again, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers.
Troopers said Simmons was arrested after being pulled over on Highway 29 near Rushmore Drive Thursday at 8:50 p.m.
According to troopers, Simmons was pulled over after a trooper saw him driving erratically.
They said he was given a field sobriety test and failed.
The rapper was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center for DUI at 3:16 a.m. Friday, according to Detention Center officials.
They said he was also booked for not having a driver’s license and not wearing a seat belt.
Officials say he was released about 4 a.m. on his own recognizance.
DMX was arrested last year in Spartanburg County for suspicion of driving without a license.
According to an incident report, Simmons was spotted just after 1 a.m. on Feb. 13, 2012 by a deputy on Gap Creek Road getting out of his truck and going into a store.
The deputy said he was aware Simmons did not have a valid driver’s license and had been issued tickets for that driving offense by both Greer and Duncan police.
The report said the deputy checked the status of his driver’s license and the records showed Simmons only had an ID card.
The deputy said when he saw Simmons get into the driver’s seat he stopped the car and Simmons was arrested for driving without a SC driver’s license.
The report said the vehicle was turned over to the licensed passenger, who was also the registered owner of the car.
