ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. —The mother of a 1-year-old baby who has been missing since June 6 has been arrested on unrelated charges, along with her live-in boyfriend.

Anderson County deputies arrested Kiara Sullivan and Travis Jones Tuesday. They are charged with unlawful neglect of a child by legal custodian.

Capt. Garland Major said Sullivan, Jones and the 3-year-old sibling of the missing baby tested positive for methamphetamine, cocaine and etrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in marijuana.

Sullivan and Jones been in the news since Sullivan’s daughter, Leaona Wright, disappeared from the Edgewood Square apartment Sullivan shares with Jones.

News 4 tried several times to talk to the family of Sullivan, but they declined. People living at Edgewood Square apartments also did not want to go on camera, but one woman told us, “That baby needs to be found.”

Detectives say that Sullivan and Jones have hindered the investigation by giving them misinformation about the circumstances of the baby’s disappearance. Investigators were initially told Leaona’s sibling opened a door and the baby “crawled out,” and that it happened while the couple was sleeping.

“We have some information coming in that’s misinformation,” Capt. Garland Major said. “I’m not exactly sure how the baby got out, but I know it did not get out the way it was first reported.”

Jones has been in custody since June 9 for failure to pay child support. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail or payment of $1,000 for failure to pay child support. He has not paid the $1,000 and remains in jail.

Deputies said Sullivan and Leona’s biological father, Richard Lane Wright, were also charged with third-degree assault, for threatening a Wendy’s employee on June 28.

Despite days of searching, investigators have been unable to find Leaona.
