She was introduced to the world in her mother’s music video for the remake of “I’m Every Woman.” For years, she accompanied her famous parents to red carpet and to awards show appearances. We watched her grow up on her family’s reality TV show. She even sang on one of her mother’s records.

Now the world is mourning the untimely death of Bobbi Kristina Brown, 22, the daughter of singers Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown.

The family announced the news via a statement from their rep today.

“Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family,” the statement says. “She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”

In a disturbing coincidence, in January, Bobbi Kristina was found, three years after her mother’s untimely death, in similar circumstances, face down in a bathtub at her suburban Atlanta townhouse. How she got there remains murky, although the executor of the Houston estate is pursuing assault charges against Bobbi Kristina’s former live-in boyfriend, Nick Gordon.

Gordon has been a part of Brown’s life for some time. He lived with Houston and Bobbi Kristina and most considered him an unofficial stepbrother until Bobbi Kristina announced on social media that the two were dating and then engaged. After the incident that landed Bobbi Kristina Brown in the hospital, Bobby Brown announced that the couple had never married.

Rumors of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s troubled life had surfaced to some degree, but it appeared that she was trying to find some stability. She started out appearing on her family’s widely criticized reality show Being Bobby Brown a decade ago and joined her family for a short-lived reality show The Houstons: On Our Own on Lifetime. She made an appearance on the Tyler Perry sitcom For Better Or Worse and was reportedly working on a singing career.

Reports of her condition varied as family members provided conflicting reports. But on June 23, Pat Houston, who was coordinating her care with her father, announced that the family was moving Bobbi Kristina to hospice care.

“Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s condition has continued to deteriorate.” the statement read. “As of today, she has been moved into hospice care. We thank everyone for their support and prayers. She is in God’s hands now.”

Brown was one of Bobby Brown’s six children, including two with his current wife Alicia Etheredge.
